Amid all the gossip and speculation about which Republican is best suited to challenge Gov. Bill Ritter in 2010, another important race has all but fallen by the wayside. Little to no mention has been made of potential Republican challengers to take on U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar that year.

"Speculation has already started on the subject of who will succeed Dick Wadhams.

I like Dick Wadhams. Anyone running against him in El Paso County loses my vote from the outset. Dick Wadhams took a party that was $500,000 in the hole and made it solvent at a time when too many people with money dislike Republicans.

In the four days since unnamed sources went on the attack against Colorado Republican Party Chairman Dick Wadhams in The Sunday Denver Post, bloggers have been buzzing about potential candidates to replace him.

"From this morning’s Denver Post, the best case for keeping Dick Wadhams as the state GOP chairman:

For the first time since 2002, the Colorado Republican Party can say it’s debt-free.

Covering the party’s $580,000 in debts is a testament to Dick Wadhams’ hard work, commitment, and connections. In the absence of any more viable alternatives, a pledge from Wadhams to focus his energy on the 2010 statehouse races ought to make him the frontrunner to keep the job."

From our totally objective, fair, impartial perspective, we must concede that it has been fascinating to watch—in that same gruesome way that you slow down to watch the remnants of a car wreck on the side of the road.
