Bill Ritter and Ken Salazar

Amid all the gossip and speculation about which Republican is best suited to challenge Gov. Bill Ritter in 2010, another important race has all but fallen by the wayside. Little to no mention has been made of potential Republican challengers to take on U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar that year.

"The Buzz" on Newstalk 1310 KFKA, 11/24 - Who will run for Governor?

FTS managing editor visits with 1310 KFKA's Amy Oliver to discuss some recent stories, including speculation over which Republican will challenge Gov. Bill Ritter in 2010. More >

"People of Colorado, your employee Gov. Bill Ritter wants you to know that his trip this week to Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., to meet with President-elect Barack Obama and his transition team is absolutely, positively, most definitely not for a job interview.

Don’t read too much into the meetings, in which topics of discussion will include transportation and, a Ritter favorite, energy.

Don’t look suspiciously at the timing, during a period in which Obama is busy announcing his cabinet appointments.

This isn’t what it looks like, says Ritter’s spokesman."

"Among other broken promises, Bill Ritter's "The Colorado Promise" policy book from the 2006 campaign put forward the following plan on illegal immigration reform:

I support tougher enforcement along the border and swift prosecution of employers who knowingly hire undocumented workers. As Denver’s former District Attorney, I know full well the frustration of repeatedly asking INS/ICE agents to retrieve convicted illegal-immigrant felons for deportation, only to be ignored and forced to release these criminals back onto our streets.

As we anxiously await the $25 billion bailout plan for Internet columnists, we offer you tidbits from the week that was.

"Bill "Recession" Ritter, as disgusted House Republicans now call Colorado's chief executive, managed only a D in the Cato Institute's fiscal policy report card on the nation's governors for 2008.

Chris Edwards of Cato said Ritter's spending record was above average, but his grade was pulled down by two recent attempted tax hikes, the school property tax case now before the state Supreme Court and the energy severance proposal defeated by voters this month."

"Speculation about a potential move to Washington aside, Gov. Bill Ritter sounds as if he's staying put in Colorado - and contemplating a run for re-election in 2010.

Following a press conference today about his recent trade mission to Asia, Ritter answered a couple questions about his own future. Regarding a potential cabinet post in the Obama administration, Ritter demurred, but did say that "the next Secretary of Energy has to be somebody that has Barack Obama’s vision for creating a different energy future and really meshing our climate policy with our energy policy."

"Gov. Bill Ritter has an important choice looming on the horizon.
