Dems think Markey can beat Musgrave

Betsy Markey, Rep. Marilyn Musgrave's opponent for Colorado's 4th Congressional District seat in Congress, has been named to a list of 14 Democratic candidates who party officials feel can take seats away from Republicans in November's election.

The inclusion of Markey, of Fort Collins, means prominent Democratic Party officials feel that Markey can win Musgrave's seat, traditionally a strongly Republican one.

The list, "Red-to-Blue," created by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, helps the Democratic candidates with fundraising efforts, and in 2006 raised nearly $22.6 million - an average of $404,000 each - for 56 candidates, according to a release.

Markey has raised $594,000 compared with Musgrave's $1.38 million through the end of March, according to the most recent federal election finance filings.

Former state legislator Angie Paccione narrowly lost to Musgrave in 2006, and also was included that year on the "Red- to-Blue" list.

If the folks in the safe Democrat congressional districts would see their way clear to contribute to Markey's campaign then she could close the deal and rid the state of this Musgrave pest. Come on you Denver Democrats and you Boulder Democrats pony up for the good of the state.
