Boulder Valley, teachers and staff reach contract agreement

The Boulder Valley School District on Tuesday night reached a contract agreement with the Boulder Valley Education Association — which represents more than 2,000 teachers and other staff members.

The agreement promises teachers a 2.7 percent cost-of-living salary increase in addition to funding scheduled salary-step increases and employee cost of health, dental and life insurance.

The new base salary for a beginning teacher will be $33,518, according to district spokesman Briggs Gamblin.

Not to look the gift horse in the mouth, but most Boulder Valley teachers are Masters degreed educators, $33,518 is still poverty level in this area. Parents want customized education for each child and smaller classroom sizes, well you get what you pay for. I know teachers, married to one of them, who have 10 plus years in this district and still gross less that 60K.
PARA and other benefits aside, this is one small step that should be viewed as just that, this is not a victory to celebrate.
