Law enforcement agencies participating in the Click It or Ticket campaign, which ended June 1, issued a total of 15,043 warnings and tickets during the three-week May campaign, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Of the 99 law enforcement agencies participating, including the Colorado Sate Patrol, local police and sheriff’s offices, six agencies still remain unreported, the release stated.
Click It or Ticket enforcement began May 12 in Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Jefferson, Larimer, Mesa, Pueblo and Weld counties, with an emphasis on unbuckled teen drivers and passengers.
During the teen-focused one-week enforcement wave, 5,286 citations were issued. The areas that reported the most violations included Arapahoe County (326), Aurora (201), Castle Rock (163), Colorado Springs (587), Commerce City (140), Denver (180), Ft. Collins (544), Fruita (132), Golden (404), Greeley (240), Lakewood (219), Loveland (210) and Pueblo (349).
During the statewide enforcement period, a total of 9,757 warnings and tickets were issued, and that number is expected to increase once all law enforcement agencies have reported, the release stated.
Thestate patrol issued 37 percent of the citations (3,638), the release stated. Other law enforcement agencies reporting greater than 300 violations included the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office with 710 and Westminster Police Department with 334. By comparison, a total of 12,250 tickets were issued between May 21 and June 3, 2007, with the State Patrol writing 3,969 of those, the release stated.
