In government, when a bad idea is rejected, what do you do? Try, try again.

More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.

Remember earlier this year, when lawmakers were busy crafting bills in Denver? One of their bright ideas was a new $100 fee on vehicles. The money would go to pay for maintenance on highways, a laudable goal. But constituents quickly rejected the new fee, and politicians abandoned the proposal.

Flash forward just a few months: Gov. Bill Ritter has re-authorized his transportation commission, and guess what came out of its work? That’s right, proposals for higher taxes and new fees. In politics, one shot at a bad idea is never enough.

The director of CDOT tells us he needs more money, plain and simple. Colorado’s government is growing nearly 6% next year – you don’t think the politicians could be a little smarter and reprioritize some things?
