There’s a new top dog at the Colorado House of Representatives.
More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.
Last session, Colorado’s Senate elected Peter Groff as its first black President. Thursday, Colorado Democrats tapped Denver Rep. Terrance Carroll as the first black Speaker of the House. To be honest, I could care less about their skin color.
Let’s talk about what they believe, and more importantly, what their elevation to leadership says about political reality. Both Groff and Carroll represent diverse urban districts, and they do a pretty good job of representing their constituents. Despite millions of dollars in spending, downtown Denver’s schools are largely underperforming. Parents are not interested in preserving the status quo.
So Groff and Carroll regularly break ranks with their colleagues and vote against the teacher’s union in support of meaningful reform, including school choice. Does this make them “conservatives”? Not a chance. But it does show that they’re reasonable.
