9/9: Markey's about-face on campaign cash

Betsy Markey toes the line for Democrats, trashing “big oil.” But did she fund her campaign with – oh my – energy company profits?

More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.

Democrats, including Betsy Markey, running in Colorado’s 4th congressional district, demonize oil and gas companies for realizing profits from record worldwide demand for their products.

But did Markey fund her campaign with proceeds from those same companies? It sure appears that way. Less than two weeks after stating she would not spend personal money on her campaign, Markey reported she had cashed in tens of thousands worth of stock held in companies like Duke Energy and Spectra Energy. She also made a contribution of $25,000 to her campaign fund.

I don’t care how Markey chooses to earn and spend her money. But her rhetoric is very different from her actions. And she isn’t answering questions - her campaign won’t answer our calls for an interview.
