Colorado can dedicate money to our roads and highways, all without a tax increase. Three state legislators are pushing a citizen’s initiative to do just that.

More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.

The DNC is over, thank goodness! Now we can get back to the state issues that will have an impact long after our next president leaves office.

Thanks to Colorado’s booming energy industry, we can fund our highways without resorting to a tax increase. Three state legislators are backing an amendment on this November’s ballot to reorganize how we spend the taxes paid by oil and gas companies.

Under their plan, part of each year’s severance tax revenue would go to transportation while maintaining a budget for the environmental programs currently funded by the tax. It’s a creative way to meet the state’s needs without raising taxes. And when we raise taxes on energy, we all pay for it at the gas pump.
