Should government act as the “bag-man” for special interests? A former U.S. Senator says, “no way.”

More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.

You’ve heard me talk before about Hank Brown, the reasonable and respected former U.S. Senator from Colorado.

Senator Brown was effective in Washington because he could work with folks on both sides of the political aisle. Put another way, he’s one to stick to mainstream ideas we can all rally around no matter what our affiliation.

So it’s important to note he recently cut a radio ad in support of Amendment 49, an effort to enforce ethical standards on government. Simply put, governments shouldn’t act as bill collectors for special interests, as they do now. If public employees wish to spend money on politics, that’s a personal choice. But civil servants shouldn’t be involved in the transaction.

That’s a common sense idea we can all support.
