Is it ethical for a candidate for state office to pay her husband to run her campaign?

More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.

Mollie Cullom is running for state House in to represent a her district near Centennial. This is her second run for this office, against incumbent Rep. David Balmer. Her husband, Jim, is supportive of her endeavor, so much so he’s served as campaign manager for both runs. But something changed this last month when candidate Cullom began paying her husband for his services. It’s a move some are calling unethical, although there’s nothing illegal about the practice.

Jim Cullom’s salary is paid from private campaign contributions. But the arrangement isn’t without precedent - remember a similar dust-up over a campaign salary paid to former Congressman Scott McInnis’ wife.

We asked the husband-and-wife campaign team for comment, to which they said they’d rather not talk about the campaign’s finances. If this is how she spends her donors’ cash, how will she spend yours at the Capitol?
