A recent newspaper report about Colorado’s U.S. Senate race is predicated on nothing more than, that’s right, some opinion posted on the Internet.

More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.

Colorado is home to one of the most competitive senate races in the Country. Congressman Mark Udall, a Boulder Democrat, is facing off against former Congressman Bob Schaffer, a Fort Collins Republican. Journalists locally and nationally have been writing about this race for a long time now.

So I was surprised to read a July 23rd article in the Rocky Mountain News saying the race may be leaning in Udall’s favor. The source? Nothing more than a blog post on a national magazine’s web site. Oh-kay.

CQ Politics is indeed entitled to its opinion, but I’d expect more thorough reporting from the Rocky. This isn’t the first time Udall’s been given a free pass; I’ve previously told you about a reporter in Grand Junction who asked the Democrat if he had the race “pretty much wrapped up.”

In a race as tight as this one, we deserve better news coverage.
