And now, some followup. I told you about a proposed teen curfew in the City of Greeley and, well, they went for it. But will it curb vandalism and crime, as promised?
More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.
I recently told you about a proposed curfew in the City of Greeley, where the city council is struggling to find ways to curb what the public sees as an unacceptable amount of petty theft, vandalism and graffiti. But will this new law do anything to address those concerns?
Maybe on the margins, but by and large most teens aren’t out at 1 am causing trouble. And the ones who are aren’t likely to be deterred by a teen curfew. After all, the little hooligans are supposedly perpetrating crimes which are already illegal. Adding one more municipal charge to the rap is no big deal.
But like many laws, it’s well-intentioned by those championing the cause and it makes everyone feel as if they’re “doing something.” And youth are the perfect demographic to legislate against – they can’t vote!
