Do Colorado cities really need curfews to help keep teens out of trouble?
More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.
Everyone was, or is, or will be, a teenager. I personally don’t miss those angst-filled years, but being an American teenager is a major rite of passage. And I had a really cute date to the prom.
But I digress. One thing I did have as a teenager was a curfew, set by my parents. To them, it was later than they probably would have liked, and to me, it was never late enough. But the government wasn’t involved. My parents kept tabs on me, and when I wasn’t home in time, I had to face the consequences.
The Greeley city council is considering a curfew similar to one already in place in nearby Evans. The mayor says there’s “nothing good” for kids out at that late hour, but don’t we already have laws against graffiti, petty theft and public nuisance?
We’ve already got enough laws on the books. The last thing we need is police with a new mandate to harass kids who are outside on a school night.
