5/13: The Prairie Dog is far from "endangered"

Filed Under:

File this one under the heading of, really bad idea: The federal government is looking to list the prairie dog as a protected endangered species.

More on that in a moment on the Face The State Radio Minute.

Let’s talk about prairie dogs – you know, those seemingly cute looking but really pesky animals that live just about everywhere here in Colorado. They burrow like crazy on plots of land, causing endless headaches for ranchers and suburbanites alike.

And let’s face it, they’re really fun to shoot at, too.

All joking aside, for some strange legal reasons the federal government is re-examining its decision to keep the prairie dog off the endangered species list, a sensible decision they made four years ago. These buggers are everywhere – and the last thing we need is a new way for radical environmentalists to keep people from lawfully developing their land as they see fit by using the endangered species law.
