With a Denver district court judge’s recent ruling that a mill levy freeze amounts to an unconstitutional tax increase, Republicans are hoping the decision will bode well for GOP candidates this November who can point to the fact that all Democrat incumbent lawmakers voted in favor of the tax hike. The mill levy freeze is a particularly sensitive issue in Mesa County, where county commissioners signed on as lead plaintiffs in the lawsuit.
The Colorado Commission on Higher Education has declined to cooperate with an organization attempting to study the impact of race and gender preferences on the admissions process at state colleges and universities here.
According to statistics released to Face The State from the University of Colorado, an increasing number of students are declining to reveal their race on their applications to the school. CU is also seeing additional increases in the number of students identifying themselves by more than one race.
