The Colorado Commission on Higher Education has declined to cooperate with an organization attempting to study the impact of race and gender preferences on the admissions process at state colleges and universities here.

According to statistics released to Face The State from the University of Colorado, an increasing number of students are declining to reveal their race on their applications to the school. CU is also seeing additional increases in the number of students identifying themselves by more than one race.

While Gov. Bill Ritter has eagerly insisted that he will appeal a Friday court ruling establishing that a mill levy freeze amounts to an unconstitutional tax increase under Colorado law, members of the state Board of Education, a defendant in the case, remain undecided about whether they will formally join in support of Ritter's challenge.

Give credit where credit is due. Gov. Bill Ritter is gutsy these days. Even after having a controversial tax increase he championed slapped down in district court as unconstitutional, he remains undeterred. The Governor will use your tax dollars to backfill his endless promises to taxpayers.
