Video: The effects of high gas prices

A recent national Rasmussen poll concludes that 79 percent of voters are very concerned about rising gas and energy prices. A Face The State street survey of Colorado voters reflects a similar sentiment as people expressed their anxiety about the cost of fuel.

On Denver's 16th Street Mall Tuesday, pedestrians articulated their support of offshore drilling while saying it needed to be done in a way that ensured environmental protections remain in place. Marie Hackett said she would support offshore drilling as long as it doesn't hurt the environment.

James Sanchez, who owns four cars, has to carpool to work and said he has little faith in the government to lower prices. A 2007 article from Bloomberg News reported that every $10 increase in a barrel of crude costs an American household $700 a year.

Additional Rasmussen polling reveals that 67 percent of voters support offshore drilling and 64 percent expect that it will lower prices.

Others, like flight attendant Danielle Matni, has seen her job impacted by the cost of crude oil. Matni says the airline she works for is downsizing by 30 percent in order to compensate for the cost of fuel.
