An anti-Amendment 46 advertisement has been pulled from the airwaves of two Denver radio stations following complaints of misrepresentation and false impersonation.
The ad impersonated the voice of Ward Connerly, founder and President of the American Civil Rights Institute and a financial backer of Amendment 46, a measure that would eliminate race and gender preferences in public education, hiring and contracting. The ad redundantly calls Connerly an “out-of-state carpetbagger,” and features an impersonator saying, “I’ve gotten rich off this scam for so long,” referring to similar measures Connerly has supported in other states.
The ad was paid for by the “No on 46” campaign. When contacted by Face The State, however, the campaign’s spokeswoman Melissa Hart hadn’t gotten wind the ad had been pulled.
The spot (MP3) was scheduled to run on 850 KOA and KBCO 97.3 from Oct. 28 until Election Day. According to a political ad sales representative at Clear Channel Radio, the campaign was given 24 hours to replace the copy. The campaign has already submitted a new ad that will begin airing in place of the old.
Jessica Peck Corry, executive director of the Amendment 46 campaign and editorial contributor to Face The State applauded Clear Channel’s decision.
